Miraculously, the ship begins receiving messages, transmitted across the vast distances over the same relay system, from relieved family and friends back home. Voyager's crew is elated to finally hear from loved ones after so many years.However, for Captain Janeway and others, their joy is tempered by bittersweet news. Many messages are still being held at the module. Voyager proceeds to the alien craft to attempt retrieval of the remaining transmissions. Tuvok and Seven of Nine are ordered to board a shuttle and inspect the craft. Before they can, however, they are captured, beamed aboard an alien vessel and trussed-up like animals as a rude introduction to the Hirogen, a hostile, alien race of hunters. Living for the thrill of the hunt, the Hirogens have targeted Voyager's crew as prey in their latest game.

Crew (The crew receives letters from their families)/ History (Although the Federation made contact with the Dominion months before Voyager disappeared in the Delta Quadrant, none of the crew members seem aware of the treat to the Alpha Quadrant, looking like Starfleet didn't told them everything about the situation in the quadrant; but the crew KNOWS Cardassian and Dominion have forged an alliance and have destroyed the Maquis, so some concerns should have appeared here)/ astrometrics (the alien commications relays are all disabled after the chain reaction initiated in the Delta Quadrant by the Voyager)/ The Doctor (he complains about Seven missing her weekly check ups several times, and recommends she regenerates at least 3 hours every day)/ Seven (she can survive for 200 hours without regenerating)/ Janeway (Mark has got married with another woman)/ Chakotay (He had been recruited in the Maquis by a man called Sveda. He learns that all the Maquis has been massacred by the Cardassian-Dominion alliance)/ Tuvok (his elder son has gone through Pon Farr, has got married and has a daughter whose name has been chosen after Tuvok's mother. Tuvok has only ever lied under orders from a superior)/ Paris (he unexpectedly gets a letter from his father, Admiral Owen Paris, but the message is lost)/ shuttle (one lost, carrying Tuvok and Seven, presumably abandonned)
