The excitement and adventure begin when the Starship U.S.S. Voyager is dispatched in search of a Maquis ship which has disappeared in an unusual region of space known as the Badlands. The Voyager finds the Maquis ship but not before being swept up in a strange and terrifying phenomenon which sends Voyager into the far reaches of the galaxy -- so far away that, even at warp speeds, it would take nearly seventy years to return. Two diverse crews must band together to explore this distant part of space and to find a way home.

4th series, 3rd spin off. New concepts are the lead star is a female Captain, and the Federation will stay out of touch. Series is launched for the opening of the new Paramout network television, in January 1995. The actress Genevieve Bujold was the first Captain, Elizabeth Janeway, byt only stayed for one day, before she officially left because of the shooting schedule, and actually because she changed her mind, not wanting to appear in a sci-fi show with all that make-up. Tom's back story is exactely the same as the one of Nick Locarno, played by Robert McNeill himself, in the TNG episode "The First Duty". For the record, Nick was involved in an training ship accident at the Academy with Westley Crusher, when their training team tried an unsafe and forbidden manoeuver for fun, leading to the death of one of their comrade. Richard Poe had already appeared as Gul Evek in the TNG's episode "Journey's End" and in DS9's "The Maquis". Tim Russ, Tuvok, is the only regular cast to have actually shot a scene with the original Elizabeth Janeway, Genevieve Bujold, where she promised to return him to his family.
