Stardate N.G.   Back on Earth, Lt. Barclay -- formerly of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D -- is part of a project to contact the U.S.S. Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. He has innovative ideas on how to get a message to the lost starship, but his credibility is undermined by his obsessive behavior, which includes spending far too much time in a holographic simulation of Voyager. Barclay seeks advice from his old friend on the Enterprise, Counselor Troi, who helps him deal with his growing problem.
